Utena 20th Anniversary Limited Edition Unboxing

Hello all.  Today’s unboxing is very special and I guess you can say, Revolutionary!  Yesterday, I got my shipment for the Revolutionary Girl Utena: 20th Anniversary limited edition box set.  The box set was released by Nozomi Entertainment and is only available though rightstufanime.com.  The set was to be released this past December, but a mishap occurred where the rings to be included were lost by the carrier.

It wouldn’t surprise me if they were somehow stolen and sold as cosplay props. So because there were no rings, everything had to be manufactured all over again.

For those of you not familiar with the series, I have a two part blog, which can be found here:  https://goodmorningotaku.wordpress.com/2017/02/18/revolutionary-girl-utena-20th-anniversary/

Now, onto this amazing box set.  I did a quick unboxing video, which can be found below.

With this quick unboxing, you’re probably asking “What’s in the box?”  Here is a detailed listing of everything you’ll be getting should you decide to purchase this gorgeous set.

Box:

The Chipboard box of this set is the most sterdy that I have seen in comparison to other sets I own.  There is a slim cover that is gold foiled, one side open to show Utena and Anthy,

and the back side is embossed with a description of the show.

When you remove the slip cover, you get the first piece of gorgeous artwork you’ll encounter in the set.  I didn’t even know Anthy’s dress unfurled that much.

The top of the box has a clear embossed rose on the top, and the title on the opposite side.  Both can be seen in the video.

Next, when you pull the box out from the side, more artwork can be seen on both sides.  The fit is a little tight, so you have to be careful pulling the box out and putting it back inside when removing it’s contents.  The sides have additional artwork of Anthy and Utena.  Best divert the kids eyes, nudity is abound with these images.

Next are the blu-rays.  Now if you do not want to purchase the box set, Right Stuf Anime currently has them on sale right now.  There are three sets total, each one covering a different story arc.  Box One covers The Student Council, box two The Black Rose Saga, and box three The Apocalypse Saga plus The Adolecence of Utena Movie.

Inside the box is what you would expect, all blu-rays are embossed with the Rose Seal and titles.

Inside each of the sets has reversable liner art.  The art chosen was art that was previously used for the limited edition DVD sets.  These sets are now very cheap on certain websites, but are soon to be out of print I’m sure since these other sets are now available.

Next, we have the hardcover art book.  This book is amazing and well done.  It is packed with all sorts of extras such as episode synopsis, key art work from the show, movie, and other media, interviews with the cast, directors, and other staff, and a history of how the show came to be.  All books come numbered.  Mine was #001139.  I tried searching to see if there was any word on how many of this box sets were made, because it would make sense to know if there was a limited number made; and so I could find out that mine was 1139/?.

Last but not least we come to the cosplay rings.  They come in a light weight box with a gold rose embossed on the front.

Inside, the rings are housed in a cushy Styrofoam.  The one on top is the student council ring while the bottom is an onyx black rose ring.

I found it amusing because before I got my hands on this box set, I watched other unboxing videos and one guy who bought it had no idea what these were.  He just collected every major box set there was just to have them, and he only assumed they were “wedding rings” because he had heard this was a Shojo anime… Well, at least you were half right dude.  While having one of this rings might get you “engaged” to The Rose Bride through a duel, you will be far from ever getting married to her.

Nanami laughs at your stupidity.

There you have it, The Revolutionary Girl Utena 20th Anniversary box set.  While it retails at $250, you can find it on sale at Right Stuf Anime for $139.99 (which is $10 less than what I paid for last week when I ordered it).  The website does state that there are not many sets left, so if you want it, you best get it now!!
