Goodbye Fullmetal Alchemist

Shorewood Blu-ray Ocard

If you haven’t watched any of the original 2003 Fullmetal Alchemist anime, then you better start binge watching now.  As of tomorrow, the license held by Funimation will expire.

Funimation made an announcement in Feburary of this year that the 2009 Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood anime and movies licenses would expire March 31st.  DVD and Blu Rays of the series are still available on Amazon, but it’s only while there is stock left; and be prepared to pay a hefty price for them new or used.  The announcement of the original 2003’s anime expiration date for tomorrow was in May.

There is hope for those who missed Brotherhood.  Crunchyroll announced they will stream the 2009 anime during their panel at Anime Expo.  No release date has been set for launch.

I did watch both series.  While I was not a big fan of the 2003 anime, I did enjoy the 2009 anime as it was more closer to the manga and was more gritty and hard. The manga is still available and is published by Viz Media to hold you over in the meantime.
