Only Yesterday gets Official US Release

GKids has made an announcement that they will officially be releasing Studio Ghibli’s Only Yesterday to the US on February 26th in theaters.  It will correspond with the 25th anniversary of the film in Japan, as the film first debut in 1991.

While the film has had no official US release to theaters or Blu Ray, the film was shown in 2006 on television as part of Turner Classic Movies month of Miyazaki.  While I could not find the commercial that coincided with the channel event, I did find an introduction video where Pixar’s John Lasseter and TCM’s Ben Mankiewicz talk about the film before it aired.

While not written or directed by Miyazaki, he was the executive producer on the film.  The film was directed by Isao Takahata, who also directed Grave of the Fireflies and more recently, Princess Kaguya.  The film will also get an english dub, which will star Daisy Ridley (Star Wars: The Force Awakens), Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire), Ashley Eckstein (Star Wars: The Clone Wars), and Alison Fernandez (Law and Order: SVU).
