According to various sources such as The Nerdist, IGN, and Kotaku; Nintendo has announced that Nintendo President Satoru Iwata has passed away at the age of 55. Nintendo has issued a short statement, which read,
“Nintendo Co., Ltd. deeply regrets to announce that its president, Satoru Iwata passed away on July 11, 2015 due to a bile duct growth.”
For many fans of Nintendo (especially yours truly), Iwata was a staple for Nintendo, most notably hosting up and coming announcements on games through the “Nintendo Direct” video series. My husband Brad and I knew he was clearly sick, as with each Nintendo Direct video we noticed him becoming thinner and thinner. He was forced to miss 2014’s E3 show due to his health.
Mr. Iwata will be missed immensely. Having grown up as and still a Nintendo fan, it breaks my heart to see him go. His humor and personality during his Nintendo Direct videos were infectious, and I couldn’t help but smile. Rest in peace, Satoru Iwata-San. I humbly bow to you.
