Anime Expo 2015 Announcements

Anime Expo took place this weekend in Los Angeles.  Here are some the major announcements made by various companies throughout the weekend.

Viz Media:

1. Viz announced they will release the manga “Naruto: The Seventh Hokage and the Scarlet Spring” sometime in Winter 2016.

2. Viz has licensed the following titles: “Legends of Galactic Heroes” novels, “One Punch Man” anime and manga, and “Boruto: The Movie.”

3.  Death Note will get a Blu Ray release.  No release date has been announced.

4. The dubbed cast for Sailor Moon S has been introduced.  Erica Mendez (Magi, Kill la Kill) is Sailor Uranus, Lauren Landa (Tales of Xilla) is Sailor Neptune, Christine Cabanos (Blue Exorcist, Madoka Magica) is Sailor Saturn, and Keith Silverstein (Sailor Moon, Naruto) will play Professor Tomoe.  Season 2 part 1 DVD and Blu Ray is set for release on July 14.

Right Stuf Inc:

1. Revolutionary Girl Utena will get a Blu Ray release in 2016.  The company originally released remastered box sets covering all 3 story arcs and the movie in 2011.

2. Right Stuf and Sunrise are collaborating to release the following Gundam series to the US on Blu Ray and DVD: The original Mobile Suit Gundam, Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ, Mobile Suit Victory Gundam, After War Gundam X, and the Turn A Mobile Suit Gundam movie collection.

3. Right Stuf also announced the following for license and release: Pita Ten, A Town Where You Live, Tamayura Hitose, Big Windup Season 2, and Umi Monogatari. They will start releasing sets in Fall 2015.

Sentai Filmworks:

1. Sentai announced the acquisition of the following anime titles: Legend of Galactic Heroes anime, When They Cry Season 1 and 2, Ushido and Tora, School Live!, Wakaba Girl, To Love Ru -Trouble- Darkness 2nd, and Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Rei OVA.  Funimation has previously release When they Cry in 2011, but did not renew the license when it expired.

1. Crunchyroll announced it will stream Ushido and Tora.  The stream air dates have not been announced.

2. The following manga titles will be added to Crunchyroll’s web distribution service: Princess Jellyfish, Scums Wish, Sweetness and Lightning, The Morose Mononokean, and Takahashi-San is Listening.

In a surprising announcement (especially for yours truly has I have been left hanging with the conclusion of the second Princess Ai Story Arc), Tokyopop founder Stu Levy made the announcement that Tokyopop is back in business and will start publishing manga again starting in 2016.  Tokyopop shut down in May 2011 due to the economic downturn and many of their licenses were saved by other companies.  They did keep their Facebook and Twitter page open.  It will not only publish manga, but also release art books, anime, light novels, and collector editions.  Stu has mentioned that 20 properties have already been accounted for and some can be found on their Youtube page.  Here’s hoping I will finally get to see volume 3 of Princess Ai: Prism of the Midnight Dawn!
